General Biology 1 Lab
Biology 125L is the application of the didactic instruction for Biology 125 and a required corequisite. Skills and performance in BIO 125L are assessed as a component of BIO 125 and therefore must be successfully completed in addition to the requirements of BIO 125. Laboratory exercises which reinforce the lectures, include microscopy, spectrophotometry, measurement techniques, PCR, and other molecular biology techniques. Corequisite: BIO 125. Prerequisites: High school Regent’s biology completed with a 75 or higher or permission of the instructor. Completion of the Genesee Community College reading and math proficiencies.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Engage in activities utilizing the process of science.
2. Demonstrate the proper use of contemporary laboratory equipment including microscopy, spectrometry, and molecular biology techniques.
3. Describe various types of membrane transport and their correlation to membrane physiology.
4. Use models to explain the current taxonomic classification system.
5. Apply the scientific method to show processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
6. Apply the process of science to basic concepts of molecular biology in various contexts (DNA discovery, DNA replication, transcription, translation, mitosis. etc.).
