Film Comedy
Examines comic films about 20th century life, politics, morality, and science. Moves from zany, screwball comedy to slapstick comedy and then to sophisticated comedy, including the works of such master comics as Mel Brooks and Woody Allen. Prerequisite: completion of the Genesee Community College reading proficiency.

Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Distinguish comedic films from films of other genres.
2. Use the terms associated with film comedy (e.g. spezzatura, katastasis, etc.) correctly in discussions or critiques.
3. Explain at least three plot variations common to comic film.
4. Summarize the message of comic films in relation to the individual and society.
5. Identify at least seven of the “giants” of film comedy and describe their contributions to the genre.
