Composition in the Natural and Social Sciences

Continues the study of composition strategies introduced in ENG 101 by focusing on writing within the social and natural sciences. Emphasizes critical thinking skills and rhetorical principles commonly employed in disciplines that investigate human behavior and/or the natural world. Students produce 20 to 25 pages of text. Prerequisite: ENG101.

4. Employ differentiated forms of writing common to the social or natural sciences (e.g. abstracts, research reports, reviews of literature, etc.)
5. Adjust the purpose of their writing to match audience needs and rhetorical situations appropriate to various disciplines across the curriculum
6. Adjust the form of their writing to match audience needs and rhetorical situations appropriate to various disciplines across the curriculum
7. Apply correct academic documentation conventions appropriate to writing in the sciences (e.g. APA, ASA, CMS, CSE, etc.)
8. Apply library research appropriate to writing in the sciences
