British Literature: Medieval Period through Restoration
Focuses on the study of British literature from the Middle Ages to the Restoration. Examines the development of British culture as expressed through a variety of literary genres from the three major historical periods. Analysis via various literary critical approaches. Computer use required for online sections. Prerequisite: ENG 101.

1. Describe the historical and social context of literary works within their appropriate periods.
2. Relate aspects of historical literature pieces to contemporary personal experiences.
3. Describe how the historic and social events and trends are reflected in the literature of the time.
4. Apply at least one literary critical method to British literature prior to the Romantics.
5. Identify influential writers of British literature prior to the Romantics.
6. Identify landmark literary works published prior to the Romantics.
7. Apply the rules of mechanics correctly in written work.
8. Employ credible academic sources as part of literary research.
9. Create coherent written critiques of works of literature.
